A few weeks ago I purchased a bunch of parts from Alembic for a bass project I've been working on. I got home late tonight (playing hockey after work) and there was a small package from Alembic. I couldn't imagine what it could be, I had already received all the parts I ordered. In the package was some of the pickup mounting inserts. I had initially had some problems installing them and damaged two of them before I asked for instructions on how to install them. Mica gave me excellent instructions within minutes of me emailing the question, but I didn't expect her to replace the parts that I had damaged.

that (body)looks like it's an alembic but i dont see a truss rod cover,did you do this body yourself? or had it made,whats the 411?

For some reason I got the idea that I had to make my own hippy sandwich. The wood I bought on ebay, the work I did myself except some planeing that a friend took care of for me. While the lams make you think of Alembic, the similarity ends there. Especially in the areas of fit and finish! Many mistakes were made but it plays ok and sounds great.

Oh yeah, the truss rods adjust at the headstock...

I think your bass looks great i have been contenplating trying my hand at making a bass but something a lot cruder than your effort well done

Alembic are great they konow how to treat people i think that is partly why having an Alembic is so special because the company makes you feel special. Regardless of how busy they are they are willing to go that extra mile it makes you feel like you have gained freinds as well as an instrument.

Mica and Alembic do it again! The company never ceases to amaze me with the great treatment they give their customers. I'll do business with other manufacturers (see below), but only for the stuff Alembic doesn't do.

Your bass looks great. I definitely admire your willingness to take on a big and complicated project like that. Have you built others? I only recently began doing a little refinishing work (a Fender Musicmaster bass and a cheap Washburn 6 string). It's a whole different experience. Takes lots of work, more mistakes than successes, but if you persevere - you can end up making something nice.

Based on my recent successes and resulting enthusiasm, I've decided to take on a project I've long considered: putting some kind of graphite neck on a J or P style body and doing the finishing and electronics myself. Tentatively thinking of using a Modulus Genesis J-style replacement neck (less clanky than the all-graphite ones) with a Warmoth J or P lam-top body. For electronics, I'm saving for an Alembic package. Any thoughts, feedback or advice? Wish me luck.
