Do any of you guys have your instruments insured and any suggetions as to what insurance companies are best for this?

PS. What do the member descriptions New, Junior, Advance... mean and what changes yuur status. I noticed mine went from new to junior..

In another thread a member mentioned Heritage Insurance Company

I called them and got some info. They were very friendly. Cost is about .50 per $100 of value. You're insured against everything except war, mold, and normal wear & tear. You're even insured against an instrument stolen from a vehicle so long as there are signs of forced entry. This includes gigs even if you're getting paid. (Homeowner's policies usually won't cover any gigging). They also insure amps and other equipment. I'm currently assembling all the necesary info on my instruments and expect to insure it all with Heritage, unless anyone around here has any other suggestions.

Thanks. I will check them out. I have a couple of old Martins (53 D-18& 66 D-35) that should have been insured years ago. I have been very blessed that I've never had any problems but do feel it would be wise to insure all my instruments. They all have their battle scars from playing, (I'm a player not a collector) but some would be very hard and expensive to replace.

Those Martins sound ssswwweeeeeett! I assume the D-35 is Brazilian Rosewood. I'll bet it really projects. (Did you hear that they told Pres. Bush that two Brazilian soldiers were killed in Iraq. He gasped and said OMIGOD, by the way, how many is in a brazilian anyway?)

i insured wolf through my regular insurance co. met life as part of my homeowners
all that was required was the registration card with serial number and msrp bill that val was good enough to make up for me.
in cases where these would notbe available they would require an appraisal of the instrument
for those that have vintage items, there are some other sources of insurance and i believe there were threads on this last year
try doing a search or ask dave for help

Does your homeowners cover Wolf while playing out at a paying gig? The homeowners/renters policies I looked at all excluded playing out from coverage.

Unless your insurance agent is a fan in the audience, I don't guess they'll know if you were playing out at a gig when a keg of beer fell on your axe, ha ha ha!

Bill,
I've checked with my company (USAA) a couple of times and they have always told me I am covered even on a gig. I carry replacement cost so proof of purchase is all they require.

HEy Bill, yea the D35 does sound great and I hope I never need the insurance but will feel better with it. Did any of ya'll catch that 42 Martin D-45 on ebay a few weeks ago. It think it sold for about $240,000.00. That's insane man.
