I remember going to see Ron Carter when he had his BASS OCTET plus him on Piccolo Bass at the Herbst Theatre in  San Francisco . He autographed the program guide for me and was quite friendly. I  ask him a question regarding  pickups on the Double Bass and told him what brand that I had. He was very quick to reply that he did not like the pickup that I had because it's mounting system robbed the bass of natural resonance.(mounted with 2  clamps on the top ). The show was AWESOME !
