New Haramb? EP now available
« on: December 07, 2010, 02:26:14 AM »
Hi guys,

My soul/funk band, Haramb?, has just released a new EP, entitled 'Reboot'. We'd be very grateful if you could check it out. For the afficionados out there, there's plenty of funky bass on the EP, played on Status Kingbass, Musicman Stingray and Alembic Stanley Clarke.

Nice groove, very reminiscent of late 70's/early 80's funk and that is just how I like to hear it.
Proper bass, guitar, keys, drums and vocals unlike the over processed auto tune crap that is drenched upon us.
Nice choice of basses as well..which one is your favourite then??

Thanks for the kind words, guys!

And in reply to terryc's question, it's probably heresy, but when recording, my favourite is actually the Stingray. It only really does one sound, but it does it very well! Plug 'n' play! By contrast, I could spend hours tweaking the Status and the Alembic in the studio to get just the sound I want. With the Stingray, you know you're only going to get the one sound out of it, and for funk, it's usually the right sound. Certainly, the first two tracks on that EP were recorded using the Stingray. Wouldn't dream of using the Stingray live, though - she's a pernickety old bird: noisy electrics, worn frets, 'wilful' neck, completely beaten-up ... So to play this stuff live, I use the Status or the Alembic.

Sounds very good!  On the second track near the end of the demo, is that a keyboard doubling your bassline or are you playing through an envelope follower?

Cheers, Dave. On the recording, that's actually a keyboard doubling the bass - I did this so that I could get the clean/effected bass mix 'just so' - simpler than taking both a clean signal and an effected signal from the bass at the same time, and more flexible than taking the mix from the effects box. But when we play it live, I use an envelope follower - keyboard player doesn't have enough hands to be playing that part too!
