And in reply to terryc's question, it's probably heresy, but when recording, my favourite is actually the Stingray. It only really does one sound, but it does it very well! Plug 'n' play! By contrast, I could spend hours tweaking the Status and the Alembic in the studio to get just the sound I want. With the Stingray, you know you're only going to get the one sound out of it, and for funk, it's usually the right sound. Certainly, the first two tracks on that EP were recorded using the Stingray. Wouldn't dream of using the Stingray live, though - she's a pernickety old bird: noisy electrics, worn frets, 'wilful' neck, completely beaten-up ... So to play this stuff live, I use the Status or the Alembic.
