A different type of Rogue question
« on: September 25, 2013, 08:15:52 PM »
I have an upcoming gig with 'America's Oldest Police Band'. One of the songs we are playing is a Beatles medley.
The son of a friend of mine is going to school in Oshkosh and has his upright and Marcus Miller jazz bass with him.  Meanwhile sitting at home is his Rogue VB100 (Hofner 'Beatle' bass copy),

I got the ok to use it for the show. How could one not play a violin bass for doing a medley of early Beatle songs?  :-D
Anyhow there is some fret buzz on it that I find annoying after being spoiled for so many years by my Distillate.

So right now there is about .02 of clearance between the first fret and strings. When I hold a string down at the 1st and 21st fret the string lays against the frets the whole length of the fingerboard.

Do I loosen the truss rod?
A quarter turn?
A half turn?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I would loosen the truss nut 1/4 turn & retune & see what that gets you. You may have to go more but it's better to do it in small steps.

You may have to wait a day or more for the truss rod adjustment to take full effect.  The last couple of basses I did truss rod adjustments on took several days to settle in after each adjustment.  It ain't rocket science, but does require some patience.

If a lawyer can do it, it's obviously not rocket science!

Rusty, Congratulations are in order !

I also agree with above posts from Rusty, Bill & Mario  regarding small increments of truss rod adjustment and permitting a settle & stabilization period to observe the effects .

Thanks Wolf! I should probably reward myself with a new Alembic, right? :-)

Rusty , Absolutely !
What better reason to celebrate secondary indications of maturity then with a few more Alembics !

Gave it a tweak and tuned sharp a couple cents. That was two days ago. Re-tuned and the action is better . . . Might give it another eighth of a turn.

Thanks!
