Need Help - Glue Smear on Finish
« on: July 25, 2015, 02:03:05 PM »
I hope someone around here can steer me in the right direction.  I just picked up a Daion copy of a Martin D-45.  It has a smudge that looks like smeared glue on the top.  Any suggestions on how to remove the glue smudge and restore the shiny finish?

Thanks,

Bill, tgo

First thing I'd try is a soft cloth dampened with warm water.

Second would be (on Dan Erlewine's advise) spit.

Third would be lighter fluid (Zippo type, not charcoal).  Unless it's nitro.  I'd research more before trying that.

Hex or snowflake?

Thanks, Peter.  Will try and let you know.  Snowflake.  Gorgeous guitar, excellent, almost new condition.  Got it on craigslist for a mere $300!  To the seller it was just an unknown Japanese guitar.  Inside, it's a Yamaki YD-35.  Daions were made in the Yamaki factory.  A little on-line research shows the same guitar with Yamaki on the peghead as well as some with Daion.

Acetone will break down CA glue. (superglue) I've gotten by with it on some finishes.

Style 45 snowflake is a classy look Bill.
