Hello Fellow Alembites/Alembiphiles!
I am offering for sale my precious Series I Extra Long Scale 4 string bass guitar. I am the second owner, and purchased this in the early '80s. My understanding was that it was originally owned by/for jazz artist Donald Byrd, and supplied to his bassist(s), when he toured. It has been lovingly cared for, and in generally very good condition. Amongst it's fine hardwoods, this bass contains rare Koa and Zebrawood. It has a lighter look than many of the 'brown' basses of this vintage. It is certainly the most attractive that I have seen. I will be taking more detailed photos within the next day, which I can email to parties with serious interest. I am offering it here to this community first, prior to listing in on eBay, as I believe the protential buyers in this forum will have a better understanding of the value and capability of this fine instrument. I would really like to see it in the hands of someone who will truly appreciate it, as I have.
I am only selling it as a result of a nerve injury that has inhibited the function of my right (dominant) hand. The last time I performed with this instrument was in February of 2005. It has been 1-1/2 years since the corrective surgery, but function has not as yet returned- and I may have to undergo additional corrective procedures. Thus, I have decided that it is time to pass this bass on to a new owner, who can use it to expand their range of personal expression as a player. As you know, this instrument can be both graceful and delicate, or thunderously powerful. It reknown for it's wide tonal range, and extremely detailed articulation.
This instrument comes with the original anvil case, power supply, multipin cable, new batteries, and a heavy duty padded strap. I am located in Ventura, California, and invite serious parties to audition the instrument, if you are in the area. I am asking $4000. Please feel free to contact me at:
creative_audio@earthlink.net.
Thanks for reading- and thanks to Alembic's craftspeople for their great work, and support of this community. I hope to one day regain the function of my hand, and again be able to play and own another Alembic instrument.
Regards,
John, aka JRBassman
