Europa w/ custom controls on Ebay
« on: March 15, 2005, 03:09:11 PM »
This is a great looking Europa.  The electronics are a combination of Signature and Europa!  And a nice quilted Maple top and Purpleheart neck lams.

That bass used to belong to a friend of mine. I remember him bringing it into the store I used to work at, on the day he got it. He custom ordered it from the factory. I actually played it a couple of times. It has an unusual electronics package which was designed to give him a lot of midrange, 'cause that's what he said he wanted.

Val; it sounds like you are saying that the electronics are more than just a combination of Signature and Europa, that they were custom designed to provide more midrange than normal?

Yep, that's it; Ron spent some time on the project. It sounds much more midrangey than any other Alembic I've ever played. BTW, the ovals are golden mother of pearl.

Hi all.  This is a beautiful bass, but the seller has refused to disclose the serial number after three requests for it.  I was concerned that it may be stolen, as a result; so I am glad that I have found the feedback here that I did.  Would I be correct in assuming that the bass insn't stolen, as nobody at Alembic idendified it as such?  Can anyone vouch for the seller, Erick, who goes by the ebay handle rrfoster?  The bidding will end in a few hours; so I'd really appreciate a response from someone soon.  TIA!!

Absence on our list only states it hasn't been reported stolen to us. Maybe the seller doesn't know where to find the serial number - on this bass is should be stamped on the truss rod cover between the fingerboard and the neck pickup.

Since I remember this bass, I checked my records and found that the serial number is 99U12240. I do not know the seller, but I do know the seller is not the original owner.

And you're right - it is a beautiful bass.

Thanks so much for getting back before drop-dead time, Mica!  Since the auction pic just about has the serial number in clear sight, I can't believe the guy couldn't find it.  He must be either arrogant, lazy, or his real name is Richard Cranium.  I bid on the sweetie anyway - and I believe the sound will fit my style of playing well.  I hope I don't have a problem with the guy, if I win the bidding.  BTW, I want to tell you that the MKLB5 Signature (SN 04MK13302)I recently bought from BC is awesome - I finally have the tone I long wanted; but I'm still getting used to that low B.....
Anyway, thanks again for you feedback.  I think I can almost make that number out in the pic, when I zoom it.  I'm relieved that it at least wasn't reported stolen, and I'm glad to have access to this forum!  Peace, sister.  Jeff

Thanks for the link SN12.  I'm surprised the list is so short, actually.  In my short 53 years of life, 30 in NYC Manhattan, I personally have had three basses stolen.

I'm the person who just sold this Europa on ebay.  First, thanks Mica & crew for making a wonderful intrument - I enjoyed it very much. It's a work of art, but I've played an old Fender P bass for 20 years and just can't seem to connect with anything else - so it was time for this bass to move on. Second, to the almighty emjay, whoever the ---- you are - I responded to your second and third request with the serial number, despite the fact that in your third request you called me a theif.  I don't know why you didn't receive my replies (and frankly, given your attitude, I couldn't care less). It's pathetic that you have used this forum to blindly insult someone you never met.  Wow - do you really think I'm stupid enough to steal an instrument and then turn around and sell it on ebay?  I'm tickled to death that you lost the auction.

For the record, I aplogized to this gentleman; as my emails from him were being blocked by anti-spam software, and I wasn't aware of that.  Also, yes, people wittingly or unwittingly get a hold of stolen Alembics and attempt to sell them on Ebay.  This just happened about two or three months ago involving a Featured Custom, and discussed in a forum here.
