I am resisting the temptation to acquire one of these two beauties. I found them recently in the UK Alembic Dealership. I've seen at least one other fender shaped Alembic in coco bolo listed there in the past so my guess they must be easier to sell to people looking for a traditional bass shape.

Very nice and sweet! If I were there my friend I don't know if I would resist . Hypothetically ; If I were there and had your consent since you saw them first , I would grab the JJ Alembic Elan on the right.

Toby, in a troubleshooting thread regarding Alembic Jazz activators Mica says this: We haven't sold the 2-volume systems for over 10 years . . . Personally, I prefer the two volume vs Vol + Pan.

Thanks Michael- I remember reading that, but it certainly didn't click.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I grew up playing a p-bass, and have never had a V-V bass that I kept for a long time. The double volume and I just don't get along. I've ended up selling a few jazz basses, T-40's and others because I felt like I wasn't comfortable with the double volume setup.

They both look like Elan controls to me.

Yeah I think they are most likely to be Elan Controls. VBF+Q

The pickups in these aren't necessarily Activators, are they? Activators are replacement pickups, these basses could probably be wired any way the buyer wants. Not totally sure about this, just thought I would throw it out there to add to the confusion!

Looks like a K in both serial numbers, so I'll bet it's Essence with Q switch. (like my fretless)
Almost the same as Elan electronics, but with a single preamp (only one internal trimpot for overall gain)
