Hey all. Been lurking here for awhile now, admiring Alembic workmanship and learning quite a bit from this message board.

I don't own an Alembic yet, as they are currently out of my price range, but some day soon...well...you never know what can happen.
I'm 23, been playing guitar for 6 year now. I actually caught wind of Alembic through a heavy interest in the Grateful Dead.

One thing I was wondering is if there are any sound clips available anywhere to hear Alembic instruments in action. Also, my main instrument right now is a strat with some Dimarzio Super IIs strapped in. How does the sound of Alembic electronics compare to the Super IIs?

Hi James, good to meet you. Hold that hope, it only took me about 20 years from the first time I held an Alembic to own one. There are plenty of Alembic bass clips around, but I can't tell you where to go to hear the guitars.
My son-in-law played Melbourne last Saturday, 10/30. His band Escher was at the Sports Place. If you ever make it up to Jacksonville drop me a line. We'll come out for the gig.

Hi James,

Welcome to the addiction. I can't answer your Dimarzio Super II's question, I just have never played anything that I'm aware of that had those.
However, I will say that Alembic electronics are by far the finest, most versatile I've ever used.

As far as owning an Alembic, I can only say that I wish I'd started my Alembic journey when I was in my 20's rather than my 50's. I guess what I'm saying is, get one as soon as possible, you won't be disappointed...

Along that vein, you might try contacting Jonathan, he's selling a beautiful Orion guitar that is most certainly worth whatever it is he's asking for it. The thread is:

A band called Escher is tickling my short term memory. I think perhaps I saw advertisements for them in the area, though I can't recall exactly what. I know I've heard the name...

Don't know if the band will make it to Jacksonville. This current project is pretty laid back about it and does it for fun. No desire to travel or even gig extensively.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I look forward to learning from all the knowedgable folk around here, and perhaps contributing what I can to the board.

LOL It feels like I'll in my 50s before I can truly start my own Alembic journey, and the first time I do lay out the money for one there'll be a huge outburst from my better half. I'll be in trouble for years.

Its funny you mention Jonathan. I shot him an e-mail yesterday about that very guitar. Its very fairly priced, though I can't do it until after the holidays, probably around mid-January. If he still has it then, then thats fantastic, and if not, I'm sure other opportunities will present themselves.

I am a bass player so no nothing about guitar pick ups or di marzios but what i do no is that my epic bass is the best thing in the world and you should listen to Hollis he is a man of great wisdom.
