Hi all - first time poster, here. I just put in an order for a Further guitar with G Guitars in Connecticut, I'm going by there this weekend to drop off the deposit. I'm giddy about it (my first Alembic), and I just felt the irresitable urge to post about it!

Now that long wait y'all talk about begins...!

Thanks to all for all the interesting and informative posts on these forums, by the way - it was very helpful when trying to figure what/if to get an Alembic!

Welcome to the club. It's always nice to have another 6-stringer on board - this place can get downright bottom heavy at times. By the way, as I'm sure you are learning, the question isn't if to get an Alembic, but rather how to get an Alembic. IMHO you have made an excellent choice in the Further. (Of course fairness demands that I disclose I too have ordered a Further - you can watch it taking shape in the Factory to Customer thread entitled Bill's Custom Further). As you will see there are a few Further's currently being built - each a little different. Are you going stock (if there is such a thing with as stock Alembics) or adding some unique touches?

Bill, I've seen your fiddle (it's a real beaut). I'm going with a birds-eye top (and back, I think), and I'm going to have the headstock match as well. So, almost stock. I was toying with the idea of custom inlay but at this point I don't want it too done up. How long until you're expecting yours?

I have the distinct feeling this is going to become an expensive habit...!

Bird's-eye is very cool. I have an '83 Electrum with a bird's-eye top and matching peghead. I have pictures of it in the showcase section.

As far as how long until I'm expecting my Further, the answer is I'm expecting it very soon after it's done. As you will find out, the elves at Alembic work at their own pace and schedule. You can't put a time limit on magic. So sit back, peruse these discussions, and wait. You can be sure of two things: 1) it will take some time and 2) it will be worth the wait.

Justin, welcome to the club. Enjoy the excitement of anticipating the arrival of your Alembic. One of my Alembics left the elves' hands and went directly to CT.
Read the club posts and contribute when you like. It's a great bunch of people. Occasionally, we are even very skinny-string tolerant.

I'm sure it will be take plenty of time, and I'm sure it is well worth it! I had been living overseas for a while and came back to the US about a year ago, and started looking for a new job. While I was looking, I started to get my heart set on Alembic once I got squared away - a sort of welcome back present to myself. So, it took a year to get to this point - 4 or 5 more months more is no problem!

Hi Justin and welcome to the club. 4 or 5 months is how long some people on here have taken just to spec' their instruments so like eveyone else has stated, don't get too anxious when your anticipated delivery date passes ;-)

Well, I just got back from dropping my deposit off with the dealer. I decided to go for a burl maple top and headstock (instead of the birdseye). They had a Tribute there that they let me play for a while. It took every ounce of self control I've built since the minute I was born not to walk out the door with that thing! What a sound, and the neck is perfection. I had never actually *played* an Alembic before... I expect my Les Paul will be on eBay before too long...!

Hi Justin, the burl maple will look great. Congratulations. Hopefully it won't be to unbearable a wait. If I may ask what pointed you to Alembic? Not having played one previously that is. Just curious because it's a great choice.

Hi Sam -

I'd been doing a lot of research on custom/handmade instruments, trying to zone in on the right company. There are a handfull out there of course, but after lurking on these boards for almost a year now (not to mention reading reviews and such elsewhere) it wasn't hard to decide on Alembic. Personal attention says a lot about a company!

All that was left was to take a test drive, just to make sure there wasn't anything that really didn't agree with me - too fat a neck, too twangy a sound, too muddy a sound, that kind of thing. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to try out the Further (they didn't have any in stock) but I'm sure it will be in the ballpark of the Tribute, all things considered. Honestly, anything in the same *galaxy* as that Tribute is good enough for me...!

I have to admit though, that little bit of unknown is a bit of a thrill for me. Sort of like being a kid again on Christmas morning!
