Tom, I can't recall if you've mentioned before; what are you using for reverb with the Bassman?

I was using my Blues Junior. I recently received the head from a friend who was holding it for me since 1990, so I actually haven't been playing it until now. Just last night I was contemplating that very question. Right now I'm pretty tempted to begin looking for an old Fender tube unit, or asking a couple of the old tube amp techs I know if they might want to build me one. I'm not too interested in the reissues, and the only pedal I found that I would be interested in is the EBS.

I have the legs to make it a tilt back, and am considering making it a full blown piggy back setup just for fun. I'm also considering a matching Fender logo for the corner seeing as they blocked part of a speaker to accommodate for it. Obviously, all they had to do was reverse the baffle and the speaker would not have had to been partially blocked. I didn't get that part of their logic, but other than that it is a great cabinet and I would highly recommend MojoTone for an extension speaker cabinet.

I've seen Debbie Davies several times. She plays through a Bassman, sometimes a Victoria Bassman, and uses a reissue Fender reverb tank.

Reissues use a solid state rectifier, and I would prefer a full tube circuit. The reissues have very good reviews though.

Nice! With a pair of Tone Tubbys and the that lovely Bassman, Pele will surely sound glorious.

I love the sound of my Skylark through my old Bandmaster head and 2X12. The plan is to add a some Tone Tubbys to my rig as well - just trying to decide between 2x12 or 4x10... maybe both .. :-D Since the question of reverb has come up, I've been using an old Lexicon LXP-1 that has been modified for better performance in a live situation. Not old school but it's a great companion for the Bandmaster.

Tom, good luck on the Fender unit.

Hi Tom,

Pele's getting that little problem I emailed you about fixed. Ron figured it out and it has been seen before rarely. So she gets a present!

That's a 1965 reverb I'm bidding on, and its condition is perfect for recovering. Searching the sold items on EBay, a very good vintage 1963 model that does match sold for just short of $1k. The seller said he had 10 watchers on this one, so I figured I better put my bid in and fight them off.

Recently there were a couple Tone Tubby cabs on EBay. An empty red 2x12 Brown, and a 4x12 at reasonable prices. I just saw Gov't Mule, and Warren Haynes had a 4x12 Tone Tubby cab underneath his Soldano. Great show by the way, and I suggest everyone go see some GREAT rock and roll at one of their shows.

How do you go into the LXP-1? Straight from the guitar or other effect first?

Glad to hear Pele's getting sorted out. I've seen a couple of older Fender reverb units at Cowtown Guitars here in Vegas in the $200 - $500 range - not sure how old, but they're not reissues.

Yeah, I'm pretty much a minimalist when it comes to effects. Most of the time I go straight from the guitar to the LXP-1 to the Bandmaster. For some numbers I add a Mutron-III in front - Skylark > Mutron-III > LXP-1 > Bandmaster. The Bandmaster starts to overdrive and break up in the most delightful way whenever the volume is above 3 and also has a nice on-board vibrato. Though I got it for the reverb the LXP-1 is actually a multi effect - decent delay and passable chorus and gate settings also.

Thanks for the heads up on the tone tubby cabs.

Seeing as guitar is not my main instrument, I decided not to go too crazy. I figure the ceramics will let me experience the Tubby flavor and save a couple bucks.

South Valley Vintage Amps is having a Tone Tubby sale and you can save a few bucks off their normal price.

I also had to bail on the reverb tank for now. Hopefully I will be able to get one in the next year.

Tone Tubbys are loaded and this amp and cabinet just come alive with my strat. Pele should be back to action soon and the combo should just be amazing. I can only imagine the alnico Tone Tubby's take it one step further. So far, I'm a believer in the power of hemp speaker cones! I would love to hear a 4x10 bass cab filled with them.
