Ok, here's a couple more for you all

The two basses sound VERY different, which is a good thing. The Rouge is Very clean sounding, and I find the Excel to be a little more...gritty, for lack of a better word.

Ken, that Excel looks fabulous! As does the Rogue of course (and the shoes!). I am extremely jealous! I'm very interested to hear your take on the sound of the 2 basses. I wonder why the Rogue is cleaner sounding? Of course as you say it's much better that they sound very different. They really do compliment each other visually, so it's great that they compliment each other sonically as well. They are absolutely beautiful anyway!

(sorry, I've tried to reply a couple of times and keep getting kicked out. I'll try to keep it clean, Honest!!)

I think clean may not be the best choice of words, it just has a more sharp high-end to it. Kind of an eq smile inherent in the neck-through. When you turn up the treble on the Excel, it just gets more aggressive sounding.

Alas, words, like pictures, do not do justice to these instruments.

Hi Ken! No worries with the post, I've not exactly been punctual replying and I've no excuse other than I never seem to be able to make time to post!

Regardless, I think I know what you mean re the basses. I have a set neck Rickenbacker 4000 and that seems more gritty and aggressive than my thru-neck Ricks. The Rick thru-necks are also more smiley-eq-ish.I'd happily swap one for another Alembic though; I do like those balanced Ks. Although a Rogue would be nice; or another Triple O, or.......ok I'll stop now!

You know, ordering another Alembic is probably the best thing. It's only money...and you'll make more, right? I highly recommend the Excel to justify the expense...it'll be very different than your Triple O, but still VERY cool.

Might have missed the race here, but how much difference does the further neck-mounted front pickup make to the sound? My Excel 4 sounds great in stock configuration, just wondering if a few slight changes might sound better for a 5-string version.
