I couldn't take it anymore. I had to purchase a new Epic Six String (Left Handed). Very excited about getting it.

Looking for some insight. I hear an oil finish on the back of the neck is more smooth and feels better to play. Anybody have any comments regarding this?
1. Standard finish on the back of the neck?
2. Oil finish of the back of the neck?

Well, I think what you are talking about is Tung oiled finish on the back of the neck. I had a Carvin bass with this, and it felt very good playing, but man, did it get dirty!

I haven't heard of an Alembic with a oiled neck, but satin finish is supposed to be very comfortable too (I am getting one on my Excel Experiment).

Gloss is okay, but if you sweat alot (I do!) then it's not uncommon to get your hand stuck while playing.

I have the satin finish rub out on the back of my neck. It's quite smooth and fast. Haven't noticed any excessive dirt build up. I have some of thier polish/cleaner, and use it regularlly. I've had necks with gloss finishes and if given the choice I'll go with a satin finish everytime. If you still prefer the look of a high gloss finish on the body, Alembic does offer a combo gloss/satin finish, I beleive at no extra charge, but you better check on that

Oil finishes will usually get dirty especially on the back of the neck where you touch the instrument the most. Some people have trouble sticking to oil finishes as well as to high gloss ones, it just depends on the person.

The satin finished neck is no additional charge and it's made with 2500 grit sandpaper creating long fine scratches the length of the neck that you touch. These form a track and make a very fast neck that we've never received a report of sticking.

Of course, a great many players never encounter the sticking problem on high gloss finishes, and as Jeff pointed out, it's usually related to the quantity of sweat.
