Thanks for the info Tom. I haven't received this bass yet (should have it Weds.), I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning. But if it plays and sounds anything like it looks I will be well pleased. After reading some posts on here I am starting to think I may have paid a little much.I looked at several Alembics but the maple on this bass has got to be the coolest thing I've ever seen.I plan on ordering a new Alembic in the near future but for now I am looking forward to playing this MK model..... Is it Weds. yet?......

Your welcome.  Maybe Mica has more to add.

Model suggests xrta long scale (XLSB), so it might be a 35 or 36 in scale.  Measure from the nut to the 12th fret, multiply x2 to get it.  And it appears the electronics are the Europa/Rogue type with vol, pan, filter, Q swtich, and bass and treble boost switches.  The middle pickup most likely is a dummy dummy hum cancellor for cosmetic reasons only.  A real pickup is installed and does not connect to the circuit, but it sure looks cool!  I had one put on my bass as well.  I'm sure Mica will check my response for accuracy.   lol

Being a lover of burls myself, and life on the beach too (nice pic)...

Olie; I just checked, today is not Wednesday.  As far as paying too much, this is a custom ordered bass with several upgrades.  The Burl Maple is quite expensive.  The extra long scale, the Abalone ovals, the recessed strap locks are all extra cost upgrades.  That Balanced Omega body is also an extra cost upgrade.  I can't tell anything about the back of this bass (laminate, plates), but the list on this bass is probably in the $9,000 to $10,000 range.  So if you had planned to order a bass like this anyway, then you just saved a lot of money.  And if you were waiting around for a bass with a balance body type, classic neck taper, Europa electronics, and beautiful Burl Maple top, well you would be waiting around for a while; this is a pretty unique bass!  If you just wanted something with 5 strings and a volume control, well then maybe you paid too much .

Thanks Dave, After doing some research over the internet I feel that I got a very good price on this bass. I've added a photo of the back,it has the same laminate as the front. And no I am not just looking for any old 5 string bass. I made the mistake back in the early 80's of buying an average 5 string and that almost ruined me on more than 4 string basses. I have since though purchased some upper range 5 & 6 strings basses and realized that while it is a poor musician that blames his instrument, a poor instrument can place blame on the musician. (i.e. noise in the studio, out of tune at the upper range of the neck....)
P.S. I am amazed at how quick people here are to help. You guys are great!

I finally received the Bass today (should have been here yesterday) but it was worth the wait.
I feel kind of stupid about the remark I made about maybe paying too much. This is an unbelievable instrument it would be a bargain at twice the price I paid. In retospect I am glad I waited until I retired to buy an Alembic like this. I would have hated to ruin this baby with second hand smoke or roadie neglect. Only until one gets an Alembic in ones hands does he fully understand why the name Alembic. This bass is refinement at it's best.
I am going to register it right now, and if you do get the build info for me I will be enternally grateful.
Thanks, Olie

Thank you very much Mica. Once I got myself famliar with this bass I really fell in love with it. I have since purchased a new MK 5 from Bass Central should have it tomorrow. I still plan on ordering custom within the year but am still gathering ideas and input from the forum. I guess the only dealer in Texas is in Austin so when I get ready to order a custom shoul I go through them or do you recommend soneone else.

Thanks Again, Olie
