Author Topic: Sourcing Activator jumpers/connectors (Read 143 times)

So..... a couple months ago I bought a set of Activators here on the forum. It is an older set of Strat Activators (circa 85) and where typically one would encounter jumpers from pickup to module and module to module, everything is soldered direct, and quite poorly at that.... Also, some of the leads for the pickups were cut too short to reach where the on/off toggles are located on my transplant guitar. I've activated 4-5 instruments to date, and my soldering skills are proficient at the very least. This is a guitar that I've been wanting to put Alembic guts into for quite sometime, and I'd like the electronics cavity to look neat and clean. Working with what I've got in front of me, it wont be. With that said, I'm hesitant to go through with this job until I've exhausted the option of bringing the electronics package back to full modular status.....

Now for the question: Does anyone know where I can find the PC mount M/F jumpers (two gangers for the pups, and a three ganger for the filter board)?!?!?!?!?

Wouldn't you need the special crimper tool to do this job?
I guess Alembic use off the shelf connectors(albeit high quality ones) so they must be readily available

Yeah Terry, these do take a special crimper. As far as being 'off the shelf', I know they're out there, but just need to narrow down the 270 pages that come back when I search mouser or the like!

08-55-0102 are the gold crimp terminals. You do need a special crimping tool to attach these. 22-11-2022 is the 2-pin wafer (male)
22-01-3027 is the 2-pin connector with locking ramp (female housing). You can branch out in your Mouser search for any 3-pin or 4-pin variations you need.

None of these parts are terribly expensive except the crimping tool, which I think runs about $90 or so. Good luck!

Yikes! I just looked up the crimping tool and the Molex 63811-8200 is over $300!

Well, it's been a while since I bought one of those, prices have sure gone up! We recrimp for free if you send us the stuff you need rehabilitated. Just pay return shipping, that's it.

pace..how can you turn down an offer like that from Mica?? A bargain I say!!
I think it's the sort of tool you find that network engineers use so it has to be spot on accurate for the connection.

Well, I thought I posted to the thread yesterday, but it never made it up....

(((((((A BIG thanks to Mica for the part #s)))))))

I was able to find some of the female Molex housings at a electronics shop, and in the meantime while I wait for the other parts come in, I bought some comparable Philmore brand pins and housings to practice on. I dug up a crimper for 16-24 AWG wire that I used for Elco/D-sub terminals back when I did installs in college.... It works just fine!!!!

While I thank Mica for the offer, I think she has a good idea as to what this install requires (we talked briefly a couple of months ago). For Tony to fabricate the type of harness I have in mind would probably run a couple of hundred bucks in parts and shop time.
