I just had one of the most satisfying gigs in a long time this past Friday night I just have to let it out...MY BASS IS THE BEST!! AN ABSOLUTE PLEASURE TO PLAY. IT RESPONDS TO ME LIKE A LOVER OF 50 YEARS.
I got two compliments from local bass players who I know and trust. One said I played with such ease that it was as if my bass was butter and my fingers a hot knife. I've been playing 5 to 6 hours a day the past few weeks preparing for upcoming tour, so I know I have been pretty fluid lately. I put my Alembic in his hands after the show to let him see that it's really the bass that allows for such easy playing. I have it setup with flats and med/low action. He was extremely kind suggesting that it was the bass in my hands that was making it sound so wonderful.

The other guy was blown away by my tone, he could hear bass note definition no matter where he was standing throughout the venue. He asked me to help him with his sound and rig.

My rig has never sounded better. I am totally sold on the new neo kappa lite speakers. I put a kappa 15 in my mesa boogie cab(replacing EVM) and it just some great sounding low end from my rig...not to mention the cab just lost about 25 lbs and can handle twice the power of the EV too!

Rig is
Series bass into Alembic F1-x into GK RB1001 > mesa 2x10 and mesa 1x15 with kappalite.
I'm very very pleased with this setup.

now off for a bunch of fly dates on Maui
not bringing the rig, but old 76294 will be going and I can't wait to play it. I just fell in love with her all over again.

I definately can relate to this feeling too. Sometimes when the gig is over I wish we could keep playing. My bass is just sooo good!

My 72 Alembic, serial #16 is like that. Strung with flats, medium low height. Incredible bass. I too have the GK1001, but use either a Bag End 2X10 - the deep one. Or, a GK4x10 sealed cabinet. I like them both for different reasons. The sealed versus rear ported just puts a different smile on my face.

I was wondering about those Eminance Kappa speakers, I would love to switch out the 10's in my 4X10. Going to what's in there now to a 7 ounce magnet would certainly make a change! I am just waiting to hear more about their 10's

I too had one of those Mesa cabs with the EVM. Great sounding cab. I can't even imagine an improvement in sound! That's great if it made such a difference.

Anyone switched to the 10 inch neo's chime in!

oh man...thanks for saying that. I never want the gig to end when it sounds and feels that good!

I'm glad you brought up the kappa 10's. For obvious reasons I am considering them as well in my 2x10. I never have come to terms with the EV 10's in my rig. I have to cut considerable low mids to be just okay with the tone. So, not only do I want a different voice from my 10's but getting more power handling and a lighter cab is very appealing too.

the GK amp was too much for it and I put a fold or crease in the cone, so it needed replacement.

I was not fond of the Mesa 2x10 for bass tone. To my ears it was better suited for clarinet.

I played an Obama nauguration party the other night and the backline bass amp was a was a GK combo with the 2X10. It was incredible. I am not sure of the model number but the 10's looked silver like the Hartke's.

I hope you have a good case for that flight! I'd like to fly with my series I, but I won't do it without a good case. So, I fly with a Modulus (it seems indestructible) or with my Starfire (which has a Calton).

Have fun! I keep hearing about all these fun gigs in Hawaii that I could sit in at if I could get there.

If you could get to Maui by this weekend, you would love to sit in with my band. We are all on the same page musically.
As for the flight, I have a leather gig bag and it goes as carry on. I've done a few fly dates this way and no problems so far.
