New Alembicians into the fold.
« on: October 21, 2016, 12:07:17 AM »
Over the past year I have introduced two local bass players to the alembic sound. One is a bass guitarist from a heavy rock band who bought an epic 4 string bass from me and he loves it so much he has asked me to find him another. :-)
The other is the bass player from the jazz big band I play guitar with sometimes. I brought one of my basses to a rehearsal when I had two rehearsals guitar and bass, back to back one evening and although it was a five stringer he was taken with the sound and quality. earlier this year he  he said he wanted 4 string alembic bass for his upcoming 50th birthday and I pointed him towards the basses PierreYves was selling and invited him round to try out my basses so he had an idea of what to expect. This week he has recieved his bass, quilted maple 4 string MK Balance K bass and is extremely happy. We have a gig with the Jazz band soon so expect to have the rare sighting of two alembics on one gig.
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

I still remember well the first experience I had with an Alembic... it was a cocobolo-topped Distillate 5-string, and was about the most beautiful bass I'd ever seen. It was right at 20 years ago, while I was in Nashville, (on a musical crash-diet... ;D) the end of Summer, 1996... another 18 years went by before I found one of my own, but that was the moment... that Distillate branded me for life  8)

Got so excited remembering that Distillate I forgot to add, there is one other bassist around here that's interested in an Alembic because of mine... he was very much aware of the storied history, but didn't know they were still making guitars and basses. Honestly, there just aren't any around here. His Modulus basses are pretty darn nice instruments, but a few minutes of playing my Persuader and he was, well... persuaded.  ::)

Nice one Greg!!
I can think of two bassists that I brought to the fold (and one on the way...I feel the tug, I just need to
reel him in slowly).
