Just a general question for anyone about these two models: since the Further is a neck-through and the tribute is a set-neck model, why is the Further significantly lower in cost? Unless I'm missing something, they both share the same electronics, etc. Is cocobolo that much more expensive than maple? Just curious.

Well here is my guess. Not only is the Coco Bolo top much more expensive than AAA Quilted Maple, but the Tribute features double thick Coco Bolo. The Tribute also has a Coco Bolo back instead of Flame Maple, another significant price difference. And I'm guessing that the Tribute body style is more difficult to carve, taking more time, and thus costing more as well.

Plus cocobolo is a nasty wood to work with. Work with it enough and you can't even be in the same room as somebody who is sanding it. You get sensitized to it.
Quilted maple just requires special tools to work...it won't burn when you make things out of it. Some guitar companies make only small numbers of cocobolo guitars a year...like two.

Thanks for the info, guys. That makes sense. Has anyone been able to play one or the other, or better yet both? I live in northeast Ohio and am lucky to have an Alembic dealer within 30 minutes. They typically stock only basses or the occasional Skylark. I am interested in the Tribute and Further mainly because of the extensive pickup/sound options with the active HHS configuration. While I appreciate Jerry, I'm not his biggest fan. I do, however, like the styling of both guitars. Can anyone explain the tonal differences between the two models? Thanks again for the input and putting up with a newbie.
