Paid a visit to my local Alembic dealer, Planet Bass, today after seeing that he had a Balance K Heart Omega MK Std in stock. What a stunning instrument. I've seen wild woods on instruments before, but this took the freaking cake and then some. This wood is NOT done justice by any picture and it looked like a particularly superb piece of marble. The beast also had a pair of PH stringers and made my cherished Stan Std look and sound, well, ordinary. In 35 years of playing, I have never experienced a body design as perfectly comfortable and ergonomically shaped as the Balance K. And that heart omega is pretty enough to make a grown bass player cry.
On top of that he had a Stan Deluxe with a vermilion core - 10.5 + pounds (!!) and sustain for days. I'd bet that bass is still ringing and I played it eight hours ago.
When I get my custom, it is certainly going to have a balance k body. At least I can skip the buckeye for that bass, as it would overshadow the inlay I plan for the upper lower bout.
All hail Alembic!
