Most of you guys are probably aware of the excellent book that came out a couple of years ago documenting John Entwistle's collection of basses and guitars. I'm afraid I forget the title, despite the fact that it sits on my coffee table . . .
Anyway, I was leafing through it the other night, looking with longing at some of John's Alembics. However, on seeing the photo of his 4 string Spider, something struck me as odd about it. It's got the names of the notes inlaid on the fretboard instead of the usual dot markers, apparently to help John overcome bouts of stagefright. All fair enough so far. But . . . unless my eyes are playing tricks on me, at the 9th fret (and the 21st) on the E string, instead of C#, the note name inlaid says D#!!?? Surely shome mishtake? Or is this one of John's in-jokes?
