Hello, I write you from Spain (Europe). Sorry but my english is not very good.

I have an Alembic bass at home that it belonged to my father. He bought it at the end of the '70 and I would like to know what model it is.
As I don't understand a lot, I have put pictures so you can talk about it. On the top of the peghead it is stamp the #77 and 882, I believe that is the serial number, isn't it?
I would like to know which is their price, because it doesn't interest me and I don't know how to appraise it.

Welcome to the group. Your English is fine.

Very nice bass there. Yes, 77882 would be the serial # of the bass. 77 means it was made in 1977 and 882 means it is the 882nd bass Alembic ever made. From the serial number and the look of the controls, I'd say you have a very nice, early Series I. Enjoy it.

Val or Mica can tell you more about the woods used, birth date, etc. One thing to check is if the bass ever had it's electronics upgraded to the newer silent elecs.

Well, thanks for your answer.
All components are 100% original. The electronics work fine, the knobs are quiet and the pickups sound very good, but I don't know if this sound is better or worst than the newer silent elecs.

On Ebay in the US this bass if it's in good condition and includes the power supply, 5-pin cable and case might go for between 2,200 and 2,800, or an average of maybe $2,500USD. That's my guess; there are some other club members that follow prices more closely than I that might have a better estimate. Prices and availability are of course different in Europe. Perhaps some of our European members can give you a good estimate in Euros. As Kevin said, it's a very nice '77 Series I. However, looking at the pictures a little more closely, it looks like there may be some problems with the finish which would lessen the value. It's kind of hard to tell.
