Rewatching one of the Terrapin Clubhouse Sessions vids, and something popped out the deep, dark recesses of my memory; this Bobby talking to an interviewer about trying to play with Phil: "But if you listen back, and you speed the tape way up, you see what he's doing. You realize that he is playing a pattern - it's just 39 bars long."
I think from the same talk, both guitarists:
B: "Phil'll take off somewhere, and you just have to tailgate on that."
J: "But he'll hear you doing that and he'll change it on you."
B: "Yeah; he'll detailgate you."
