2000 Series 2 shape
« on: June 11, 2025, 10:03:09 AM »
I really like the 2000 Alembic series 1 and 2 body! I compared it to the older series 1 and 2 body. Both are nice, but I like the 2000 cut. Unfortunately, I can't afford the used $21,143.21 one. It's perfect for my playing, because the neck pickup is set further back for finger popping. I noticed the pickups and bridge is shifted down as well, which extends the strings area over the body, creating more sustain compared to the older 70s and 80s model. The horns are expanded/elongated giving balance to the bottom half of the body, making it more aesthetically pleasing to me, let alone more balance. Who owns this bass? Look at the 77 model and compare to the 2000.

The 2000 instrument you're looking at has the 3/4 size variation of the classic large body shape. The pickups are roughly the same size, so you should scale up the picture of the 77 bass just a little bit to get a better impression of the relative sizes.

Michael,

That 2000 is an oddball and must have been a custom build.  The things you've noticed - the unusual upper horn stretch, the extra long bottom "point", and the closer pickup spacing - were all likely requests made by the original customer.  Which makes this a one-off.

The thing is, the more customizing you do the less appealing it may be to "regular" customers, if you know what I mean.  I personally think that body shape looks odd and slightly unbalanced but that may just be because I'm accustomed to seeing the standard shape.

If this really rings your bell then try a low bid.  Keep in mind it's in the UK so shipping may be an issue.

This bass is a featured custom and was once ordered and sold by Station Music in Germany:

There are more out there, indeed the 3/4 version. Edwin in Holland has a 5 string heart omega version from 1997 for sale: https://reverb.com/item/90740241-alembic-series-ii-5-string-cocobolo

Frequent poster from way back olieoliver has at least one: https://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=8697.0

Although it may be an "odd ball", I like it. It's way too expensive.
