I was a member of the Recording Academy for a few years in the early 2000s. The thing with the Grammy’s is that the members votes are what determine what is nominated and which releases win. You don’t have to have recording credits to be a member but you do have to have, I think it was, 3 recording credits on issued recordings to be able to vote. There is a lot of politics involved in the Recording Academy, though, hopefully Alison is able to make a difference in the position she will have. Agree that she is more than qualified to represent the boots-on-the-ground issues that musicians face during their careers. The awards themselves aren’t that important to me but I have a ton of respect for the educational programs and the help Musicares provides to musicians in various forms of financial need.
