Looking for info on my brand new used 1983 Electrum
« on: July 31, 2004, 06:05:16 PM »
This morning I bought an Electrum at the guitar show in Marin, (California for you non-bay area types).  I just got back from the studio where I took it for a test drive on my Boogie Mark III.  Wow!  I'm trying to figure out the electronics and any help from Mica or anyone else would be greatly appreciated.  The axe has 3 knobs and two toggles.  One knob is volume.  One knob has a center detent and acts like an EQ.  The third knob seems to be a  tone adjust of some type maybe and might be working in conjunction with the center-detent knob.  One toggle seems to switch between the two pick ups.  The other toggle cuts all sound out.  The guy I bought it from told me it was a standby switch.  Though I've never seen such a beast on a guitar, if any one would come up with this it would be Alembic.  The Serial Number is 83E2780. Thanks in advance for any info.

Hello Bill, welcome to the Club! This community is one happy, friendly and very international patchwork quilt of Alembic fanatics. You'll soon find out that it gives you a warm feeling of coming home every time you come by for a visit.

I can't be very helpful about the Electrum electronics I'm afraid, others undoubtably can and will, but a stand-by switch is indeed an option Alembic offers, my EVH has one (with indicator LED). If it's a genuine Alembic addition to your instrument it allows you to keep the instrument plugged in without draining the batteries. Not to be mistaken with the stand-by position on a 4-way pickup selector switch, because that does drain the battery.

Feel free & somewhat obliged to post pictures, at least in the Showcase section of this wonderful club. But we certainly don't mind if you also post them in this thread. I'm sure our 6-string brothers are delighted to see another non-bassist joining this club that's still dominated by the low end. For me personally Alembic is responsible for me selling all my guitars and becoming a new born bassplayer. So beware!

Hi Bill, congratulations on the new guitar and welcome to our community.  I'm in the opposite corner of the country from you but do enjoy the bay area.  My wife and I are planning a visit next month.
Hopefully some one will soon not only answer your questions but give you the build info on your Electrum.  Not me though like Wilfred I stay in the deep end.
