Just finished Long Time Gone - David Crosby bio vol. 1

Haven't yet decided whether to order the second volume, Since Then.

I think maybe Bill might have posted a review of this book previously.  For me, it was kind of a tough read because the horrific details of his addiction take up so much of the book.  Enjoyed the first few chapters that brought back lots of memories of that time: folk music, the Byrds, CS&N, CSN&Y, Woodstock, etc, and the influences those had on my own life.  And the end of the book (around 1988 or so) was a happy ending of beating the addiction and of redemption.

I read a lot of music history - classical, jazz, rock - and especially benefit from learning about events that influenced my own life path; and this book was a valuable contribution to that story.

Same here, the tale of drug use seemed to be the theme of the book. Amazing folks survived from back then. I have read his boat the Mayan was neglected for some time due to the same problem.

I read Since Then.  I didn't realize there was a first volume.  Just checked and Long Time Gone is available on Kindle Unlimited for free.  Think I'll download it and check it out.

A friend of mine lent me his copy of the first volume back when it was published. Rough read. Like David H. I enjoyed reading about the early days since I was a huge Byrds fan. When I got a bass in 1965 the first songs I learned to play were all the songs on the Mr. Tambourine Man LP. The addiction parts are not pretty and made me feel tense and almost ill reading them. Probably the most detailed description of cocaine addiction that I have ever read. So glad that drug never appealed to me, I watched it make a mess out of a lot of people's lives. David was fortunate to get through to the other side and continue to make good music... 

I didn't realize there was a second volume and should probably read that, too.

couldn't find this at any of the local B&M's in the mile high so i ordered it from the evil empire.  i was always a fan, david was a huge influence (for better or worse) on my early years, kinda looking forward to this one

I have just hit the release of _If I Could Only Remember My Name_ (one of the all-time great albums); it hasn't gotten rough yet, but the presaging is getting thick.
