Hi Michael, and welcome to the club! I see you are from Westchester County. Me too, I grew up in Yonkers at the southern end of the County. Anyway I can tell you that the old Modulus graphite necks are wonderful. Here’s a link to a guitar I put together with a Modulus Blackknife neck and Alembic guts:
https://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=16621.msg167889#msg167889As you are discovering, they are hard to find. As for actual Modulus guitars, the earlier ones had the 100% graphite necks, like the one on my guitar. Later, they changed to combo wood/graphite. IMHO, the change didn’t improve the neck at all. Rather, I suspect they were trying to appeal to more guitar players who tend to be less experimental than bass players when it comes to instrument innovations. The necks also show up by themselves every once in a while on Craigslist and Reverb. The only other graphite neck that shows up every once in a while are the Moses necks. These are a little different design than the Modulus, being solid graphite as opposed to the Modulus hollow necks. Moses no longer makes these, but they do turn up for sale a little more often than the Modulus necks. I’ve built a Strat type guitar with a Moses neck and still have a Tele Moses neck for a future build. The Moses necks are nice, but I do prefer the Blackknife necks.
Another source for Modulus necks that are a little easier to find are the Alvarez Villain guitars, some of which were built with a Modulus graphite neck. You can often find these for less money than a stand alone Blackknife neck!
Another option for a Bobby graphite equipped guitar is the Casio PG-380 paired with a Blackknife neck. Bobby played one of these for a while. The PG-380 is a sweet Strat-like guitar with an on-board synthesizer.
Good luck with your search.
