F-1X voltage jumpers
« on: April 24, 2024, 07:26:46 AM »
So not really “troubleshooting”, but I have an F-1X preamp inbound from Japan.

Naturally, there is a voltage difference, and the post with the jumper pictures is going to be super helpful.

That being said, I’m also aware that electronics can contain enough voltage to kill you or at least ruin your day.

I plan to basically open this thing up only as much as needed to get the job done, and not touch anything more than necessary, but what steps should I be taking to maximize safety?

I figure that leaving it unplugged is the most obvious step, but additional advice is appreciated.

Unplugging it is a wise choice!  With no power connected there's really nothing to worry about.  It's possible the power supply caps have some charge stored in them but very unlikely you would get tickled by it while moving the jumpers around.  Are you in the US?  For US power, as you can see by the instructions, you should only need to move the furthest left jumper one position over to the left and that should do it.  Be sure your new hardware matches the photo before you plug it in and you should be good to go.

Enjoy that thing!

Thanks!  I’m indeed in the US. It sort of looked like there were two minor moves to make, but I’m going to have the photo up and in front of me when I make the swap.

Ah yes, you are correct: left jumper moves one notch to the left and the right jumper also moves one notch to the left.  Double check it against those pictures and you'll be dialed in.  You're going to like that box.
