Looking for advice on selling an Alembic SC Signature '91
« on: May 01, 2024, 12:14:26 PM »
Hi All,
New member to the forum here but long-time Alembic user.
Unfortunately having to explore the prospect of selling my 1991 Stanley Clarke Signature. Asking members what they would consider to be a fair/reasonable price. I'm the original owner and the bass has been well cared for with no dings/dents/scratches. Frets/truss rod still great. It came with a softshell case. Woods are Indian Rosewood, Maple, Mahogany and Purpleheart.
Also, any advice on using Reverb to sell and avoiding pitfalls/scams would be greatly appreciated.
Peter

Hi Peter

That is a very pretty bass, sorry to hear that you have to sell it. I can't help you much with the price or how to deal with Reverb but once you decide on an asking price there is no reason you can't offer it for sale to other club members as well as list on Reverb. I can confirm that he majority of the Alembics listed on Reverb are severely overpriced. Not sure if you monitor the site but a lot of those instruments have been sitting for at least a year. The tendency to assign unrealistic prices makes it difficult to determine what would be a fair market value.

GLWTS! I am sure you will get some pricing ideas from members here more familiar with the Signature instrument market than I am.

You should look at actual sold prices on reverb as well as on Ebay.  There's a filter option for both, and that'll be far more informative than looking at instruments that are currently for sale.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I have been monitoring Reverb prices for a bit. Definitely the ones up for sale from Japan seem way overpriced. Also, didn't realize you could filter results on past sold instruments. Will check that out. Thanks!!!!!!

Definitely do check it out! It's much more of a reality check than looking at what people are ASKING.

Good luck man.
