Jack Williams played an Alembic

I just read that Jack Williams, a popular session bassist in Nashville from the 1970 to 1990, played a Series 1. I find that very interesting, considering how Fender was the main bass being used at the time in Nashville. Jack's style is strong and very clean. An under the radar player, Jack played on many of the more contemporary hits by Lee Greenwood, Tanya Tucker, Kenny Rogers, Ray Stevens, Oak Ridge Boys, Ronny Milsap, Eddie Rabbitt, The Judds, Randy Travis, and many more. Jacks' playing utilizes recurring figures, fingerstyle and pick, all with a great tone and touch. I would love to see a pic of Jack and his Series 1, but I can't find one. It's surprising how many Alembics there are in Nash-Vegas. The first one I ever held and played was a Distillate 5-string, in a nasty little joint (which shall remain nameless) down on Broadway. The kind soul who owned it let me sit-in and play a couple tunes with it. Branded me for life.

Last Summer I sold my '81 Distillate to a touring bassist in a very successful Alt/Retro-Country band. He uses it to record with.

And something tells me we've mentioned Jack Williams' Alembic here before... like maybe it was for sale or something.

I shouldn't be surprised, really, about Jack playing one. I was playing an Alembic during the same period when I arrived in LA, and a butt-load of others across the USA were, too. Jack said he started playing Alembic around 1980.
