What's a fair price for a Series I?

Hello! I'm thinking about parting with my Series I. It's just too little for me and I can't put my hands on it with comfort (I'm used to play big basses with a lot of room for slap). It plays great though, and it's the best looking bass I've seen in my whole life. I simply have huge hands and I'm not comfortable with the fact that this bass doesn't fit my strings (035 D'Addario XLs). Besides here it's a big trouble to find short scale strings! I don't know how much this bass is worth, I've got it from a guitar player and I gave him a lot of money+studio gear.
I've sent a mail to our Mica to receive informations about it. Anyway, it's a small body, short scale Series I with (?) Walnut top and back and brass backplates. The electronics work great, the bass has some little sing here and there but it's in great conditions. The frets are fine, the neck is smooth as a glass. I'll post something similar in the Swap shop and wish list :-)
I've seen similar basses sold for $2,500.00 and I paid about that amount (considering the gear) or a little less.

About 2500$ is generally a fair price.  I've seen them go on e-bay for a bit more & a bit less.   Rumble Seat Music on the east coast is selling one much like yours  and they are asking 2650$.

I was thinking about trading it for a long scale bass with similar electronics, but I've just understood that this wouldn't do the trick, 'cause the neck pickup - fingerboard distance is the same! :-(
It would do the trick for the strings, though... it's just a hard decision to take!! I just love the look and sound of the bass!!

If the neck pickup is too high for your slapping technique, try lowering it.  Be careful because there are two screws that tighten and two screws that support; lower the support screws first to the desired height then tighten the other 2.  I'd say go for the long scale

It's not too high, the problem is the distance between it and the fingerboard. If I wanna solve the problem adjusting the pickup height, I would have to lower it until it's on the same height of the top! .-(

just my two cents!
Alembic makes S and other basses with the pick-ups moved more to the bridge position. If you brows through the monthly custom ... you'll find.
However: i think you'll get used to that position. I remember reading somewhere here on the club that Stanley Clark also used a small body with mediumscale. If I'm well informed: SC is tall and has HUGE hands! It's just a question of getting used to!

You're right, but I've always played basses with a lot of room... I think that the pickups should be placed both in the same area! I'll probably order a custom ;-)

I'm not a slapper, but based on what you're saying, Armando, if I went with a custom I'd think about leaving off the last three frets or so and making that part of the neck flush with the top of the instrument. Probably wouldn't cost much, shouldn't compromise strength, and you probably won't miss them... Just a crazy thought.
