Just passing along something I learned the other day... and this seemed like an appropriate thread.
The other day on "Today In Grateful Dead History" they didn't have a show for 3/7, so they played 7/8/87, my hometown, Roanoke VA. Probably the most interesting thing was a couple rarer tunes in the first set the first night (they were here two nights); Dupree's Diamond Blues and Big Railroad Blues. Can't say I ever heard either of them. My buddy Shag tried all Summer to get me to go to those two shows. I had a legit excuse - had to work and had a gig.
Anyway, turns out, that wasn't the first time the Dead were in Roanoke. They were here on 7/27/74, with The
Wall of Sound. It was one of the shows with that beautiful monstrosity. There's a pretty funny comment about them not being able to fit all their "equipment" in the Roanoke Civic Center.
