[SOLD] Alembicized Starfire Project for sale
« on: August 14, 2022, 11:12:31 AM »
Here's another I've been on the fence about. If you've ever thought about an Alembicized Starfire Project, I have 95% of it here... maybe all you need. You could build a complete guitar or take it further, your call.

So I had this DeArmond Starfire II, in sunburst finish, nice shape, couple small dings, bone stock. I ordered a set of Activators from Alembic (by way of Will Gunn Guitars...) and they built me a set of Guild shaped humbuckers, and an East-Meets-West electronics set, complete with 5 witch-hat knobs and 2 ferrite beads. This set, by the way, includes the new model Pan preamp, with two trimpots to adjust gain to each pickup individually.

If you don't know, E-M-W electronics are; Volume/Pan/Filter/Q-3 plus a rotary Bass and Treble boost/cut function. It is an extremely useful, versatile set of activators. The set is brand-new, still packaged, unmounted, and un-messed with. Just like it came from Aunt Mary 3 years ago.

The guitar is stripped, and ready for the mods. I have all the hardware, packaged up ready for remount. It's stock, chrome. The bridge on these (in my opinion) was far superior to the one Guild used. For that reason, I had every plan to reuse it, rather than rout for a sustain block and channel bridge, and scrounge up a bird tailpiece. But you could totally do that. Up to you. See the pictures, and decide.

Your choice of a hard case or gig bag. I have both. If you want both, pitch me a few bucks and I'll stuff the gig bag in with it.

So I'm just kinda' bailing out of the project here...

How about $1500. Too much? Hit me. I don't mind giving the guitar away, but the electronics are new. And shipping sucks anymore.

Thanks, ~Ed of H

Man that’s tempting, and a great price but I recently purchased a Moonstone hollow body and then a Hyak so for the sake of continuing any sense of marital bliss, I’ll need to pass. Good luck with the sale.

A Club Member here has asked (on a different thread) about specifics on these pickups. I don't know for sure it's been so long. I do know mine were among the first ones cast in this mold though, because I donated the pickups to make the molds. And I think Mica told me they were the same magnets as they use for an AXY4. I will have to check on that.

The big difference is the shape, and the mount. These require a 3 screw spring-loaded ring type mount. Here's a picture of the bass when it had the original DeArmond pickups to give you an idea.

*if anyone is interested in just the electronics here, that's just as well... I would just as soon not be shipping another guitar around the land, so figure this full set at $1100 and I'll put this guitar on the local Craigslist with aftermarket stuff in it. I know a kid who is an up-and-coming builder who might want the shell for a project. That might even be better. Too many nuts on CL anymore.

I'm on board for the electronics!

Are the pickups sized the same as the metal cases or sized as the whole assembly (metal cases AND the plastic mounting rings?)

Thank you,

Bryant

I will get you exact measurements when I get home (see below) Bryant, but I sent the original pickups and rings to Alembic as models to make the molds for these pickups, so I'm thinking they are the same size as the pickups, sans rings. You'd need some rings.

Dimensions: base length 3-5/8"
                       base width 1-7/8"
                       top length 2-15/16"
                       top width 1-7/8"

Okay: Activator Set is [ON HOLD]. Use my contact to the left there...

And I have gifted the DeArmond Starfire to a youngster who is doing some building/modding. He's going to put a set of the Guild Bisonic reissues in this one, and re-animate it to playing condition.

Perfect ending.  :)

This one is all a done deal... the DeArmond Starfire is off to be re-animated with a set of Novak Darkstars, and the Alembic Activator set is going to a Club Member with a cool project in progress.

Please mark [SOLD], and Thanks to all here.  :)
