Nothing stays the same

Thought I'd share these two photos of my 2005 rogue. 15 years apart and it's fascinating to see how the coco bolo has developed.  The red strung pic is the original taken within about 6 months of the bass being finished. The two really dark streaks either side of the pickups have gained much lighter centres and  the lower horn has changed from near black to a light caramel.  The upper horn has also lightened slightly. Sadly the really well defined swirls on the upper and lower bouts have faded slightly so they aren't as prominent but it's still a fantastic piece of wood.

The red strings really make it look fantastic. It still looks gorgeous now. I'm curious if the 15 years has added richness to the tone.

Great looking bass Jacko.
I will have to see if I have a couple of pictures of my Cocobolo SC Deluxe and see if there is any difference. I think mine has gotten darker over that period but lighting makes a big difference in how red the cocobolo looks especially in sunlight.

My fretless cocobolo Rogue (Growling Tiger)  has definitely darkened. Still gorgeous, you just have to look harder to see the grain. The outdoor shots are today, the indoor shots are from a couple of years ago, and you can pull it up in Featured Customs right after it was born.

It almost looks like the dark areas of your bass have turned light, and the light areas have turned dark.  Some sort of redox process?

I’ve had my epic ~18 years and it was born in ‘95. It’s a zebra wood top. I’ve noticed it darkening since I got it and the grain is becoming more pronounced. It’s really beautiful. I wish I had a pic from when I got it back then. You can see it in some of my other posts.
