Alembic SF-2 Manual

Also, after looking through the appendix, I'm wondering if I could use a Series I in stereo, bass to Ch A and treble to Ch b. I'll be using this straight into daw for recording, no pre-amp. Would the SF-2 no longer be a pre-amp if not using the mono input? Thx, Aaron

There is an internal jumper switch that sets the preamp to 0, 10, or 20 db gain.  It comes from the factory set at 10 db.

Interesting question. I never thought of the front input as being different than the back - you are right, the appendix implies that one should plug into the front when using as a preamp, or through the back when using a separate preamp first. What signal chain do you envision using exactly?

Interesting question. I never thought of the front input as being different than the back - you are right, the appendix implies that one should plug into the front when using as a preamp, or through the back when using a separate preamp first. What signal chain do you envision using exactly?

It doesn't really matter, especially if you are using an active bass and really especially if it's a Series bass with all of its available gain. Just play with the options until you get the signal you need with the lowest noise.

I’ve never cracked one open to eyeball the layout.  However, as it looks like I’ll be spending a lot of time at home over the next few weeks, I’ll have time to get to a bunch of projects, one of which is repairing the rear stereo/mono switch on an SF-2 I picked up on eBay.   I’ll pull it out over the weekend and have a look/see.   If someone else hasn’t answered first, I’ll post the info.

Yes, my impression is that the "as preamp" and "after preamp" suggestions in the Appendix of the manual are just that - suggestions - and we shouldn't read into them that the SF-2 can't be used as a preamp if the rear inputs are used. It could simply be that "as a preamp" you would plug into the front for convenience and "after preamp" the cabling would be on the back of the amp so you would plug into the back!

The jumper switch to set the SF-2 to either 0, 10, or 20 db gain is on the inside, just behind the "Input Gain/Direct Gain knob on the left as you look at the front panel head on.  You remove and reset the little black plastic rectangular piece over the two appropriate posts as seen below.
