It occurs to me, I’ve never actually played on an electric upright. I’ve played string basses a time or two - not well, mind - but I don’t think I’ve ever even seen an electric in the flesh. I think Ampeg made/makes one, obviously Alembic as well. How do they sound, authenticity-wise ? Would a top drawer string bassist like Stanley or a symphony player be satisfied or do they insist on the real deal ?
I once played on a Yamaha electric cello, and it was very impressive, sound wise. It did “ feel” kind of like an artificial Christmas tree sensation, and I wonder if that makes a big difference w bassists .
