I saw James Taylor last week, and I was happy to see his bass player sporting an adorable Alembic bass!!

That is actually none other than the incredible Jimmy Johnson on his five string Series bass.
One of the most loyal and true Alembic players around.

That would be Jimmy Johnson, another true master of tone and taste. Check out their latest CD October Road. Steve Gadd plays drums as well. It's truly a study in restraint.

and one more HUGE Jimmy Johnson fan over here.
I read in the bass-book that Jimmy was the first more-than-4-string electric bass (exception for the Fender VI and Danelectro more guitar-basses instead of bass-guitars) player. According the text in the book he was inspired when ordering it by his father experiences on 5 string upright. 5 string uprights go WAY-back into time.

Yet another Jimmy Johnson fan. I was so impressed, I bought the bass!

His work with James Taylor is indeed superb but I was really switched on to his playing on his various outings with Allan Holdsworth. In fact that's perhaps the greatest appeal to me about Jimmy's playing, the breadth of content and style he has at his fingertips. That and his insanely busy playing in the trio lineup. Hmmm, his tone is pretty fine too......

Awesome!
