The extra layers between the body wings and neck-through are interesting... wonder what that was about? I'll guess a bumble-bee flew through the shop one day, startling the guy running either the router or joiner.

(voice of personal experience...)  ;D

I'm potentially interested in this one but have never dealt with Reverb before. Can one negotiate a bit through them?

Yes, you can contact sellers on Reverb and see if they are willing to negotiate.

If I may join in, when I made an offer on the 73-33 on Reverb, the web sight said my offer was too low and wouldn't let me put it in. I saw he also had it listed on EBay and dealt with the seller through that. Not sure if you'll run into that problem but thought I'd share my limited experience with Reverb. Best of luck, it's a beautiful bass.

I am listing some guitars on Reverb, and there is an option to ignore low-ballers when you list your gear. I think the cutoff is 64% below asking, and an offer will not get through. But there is always "Contact the Seller" option, if you want to ask. That has worked for me. And, all my gear has the "Make an Offer" option available, so I can get trade offers. It is amazing how many people will make ridiculous offers.

Anyone here have information regarding this bass.  I'm going to be putting in a realistic bid on it but the seller has no idea as to the woods (Serial #76-523).  I can tell from the photo.  The top lam could be bubinga as it looks a lot like my standard point Series I but obviously photos and light in which they are taken can make a big difference in coloration   He indicates the neck is maple, purpleheart with the additional lams potentially something else.  They still look like purpleheart to me.

I wonder if the top isn't padauk/vermillion/nara. Maybe the extra laminates too.

Good luck Brian... I know you've been looking for a Shortie for a while now.  ;)

Gregory:

Vermillion is certainly a possibility.  Waiting for some additional photos.  In the photos that are up it certainly looks similar to my Bubinga Standard Point but...I'm not sure I could differentiate older vermillion from bubinga.
