This Activator is from 1985 (yay Keith!). We don't keep records of instruments that we modded except on the sales invoices, but I'm pretty sure we didn't do this install. The lack of silver shielding is of course the first clue like Keith and Greg noted. It would be extremely rare to use a wire nut on an install that was done here like Keith mentions. And we would of course insist on threaded inserts, certainly in 1985. That backplate. If we used black plastic, it would be recessed, matte, and a more organic shape. But the other clue is the metal knobs. In 1985, the factory could not make the pots with a wave washer, so using metal knobs will cause static when you rotate the knob. Also, I have had no inquiries about this guitar.
My guess is that sometime after 1985 someone put in a killer set of electronics and pickups in this fine guitar. It's not as exciting as the what is proposed by the seller, but that's much closer to reality.
