 Cool,
The seller mentions the work was done at the mothership.

Was there an activator type preamp back in 1977? For some reason I feel the earliest those would have come out is 1979  with the Distillate line. Also if I recall correctly the pot has a date stamp that would make it 1985 or thereabout for the electronics.

Edit:
One other thing that makes me believe the work was not done at the mothership and that is what appears to be  wire nut used on the green wires.

I'd have guessed Alembic would have shielded the electronics cavity too, had they performed the mods. That's still a pretty darn cool thing to spot on ebay! ;)

This Activator is from 1985 (yay Keith!). We don't keep records of instruments that we modded except on the sales invoices, but I'm pretty sure we didn't do this install. The lack of silver shielding is of course the first clue like Keith and Greg noted. It would be extremely rare to use a wire nut on an install that was done here like Keith mentions. And we would of course insist on threaded inserts, certainly in 1985. That backplate. If we used black plastic, it would be recessed, matte, and a more organic shape. But the other clue is the metal knobs. In 1985, the factory could not make the pots with a wave washer, so using metal knobs will cause static when you rotate the knob. Also, I have had no inquiries about this guitar.

My guess is that sometime after 1985 someone put in a killer set of electronics and pickups in this fine guitar. It's not as exciting as the what is proposed by the seller, but that's much closer to reality.

This must mean that the seller is being less than honest, then. I wonder what the guitar sounds like?

Well it may also mean they were ill-informed. I don't like to jump to conclusions. But I have notified them of the error through eBay's messaging system, so they should be correcting it soon.

The listing has been updated. They even thank Mica for her corrections. My feeling is they were going by what they had been told and didn't know anything more about the guitar.

Exactly ^^. The seller was very responsive and forthcoming. I don't think there was an intentional misleading here.
