Multiple Listing of the same Basses (on ebay)
« on: July 17, 2016, 04:06:42 AM »
I freely admit being an eBay junkie... by that I mean, I scan for various saved searches a couple times daily, sometimes more depending upon the day. I watch auctions I have no intention of bidding on just to see if they sell. I watch for Alembic listings right along with vintage Martin and Gibson guitars so I usually know right off the top of my head what's on there any given day.

Lately I've noticed (as I'm sure some of you have) there are multiple listings for the same Alembic bass or guitar, by different sellers. Most I've noticed are from different locations, major cities in Japan.

Here's one example - same Series I, listed three times.

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=282098726144&alt=web

That's just one of many examples. Anyone know what's going on here? Is it a simple case of a chain of franchised music stores all listing the same wares?  Not implying anything is wrong with it, just curious.

I'm an eBay junkie but my favourite search is for alembics. I was looking for a series shortie for years and now looking for a spectrum guitar. But like you I have noticed lots of these multiple listings and have no idea as to why this is going on but I certainly would be reluctant to bid on any of them for fear of falling foul of a scam. There is nothing to suggest there is anything untoward but I think if It is one seller trying to maximise the sale visibility it might help them to state they are all the same listings maybe in the manner  you allude to.

The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

I too am not in denile regarding my ebay indulgence . I have also noticed such items that would seem to be questionable in authenticity . Some completely reek of scam . In particular there were a series of listings of various items that required payment only in wire transfers or where everything was a " Buy it now" all at ridiculously low price . Caveat Emptor my brothers and sisters ! ( let the buyer beware )

It's not just with Alembics.  I also check eBay/craigslist/reverb.com daily.  There is a blue Daion Savage guitar that has been listed by two different sellers at two diffent prices, using the same pictures.  Both from Japan and both with $143 shipping.  My own policy with eBay is if anything seems wrong or questionable or just doesn't feel right, I pass.  As brother Paul, tbo, was fond of saying: "There will always be another".

That seller in Japan has listed several instruments each under multiple listings.  That Series 1 is noted in excellent condition for its age, but appears banged up with a possible crack running the length of the upper half and the tailpiece has been moved (not centered over the sound block) for some reason.  Also, no real good close up photos. Makes you wonder what is going on with those instruments.

I checked eBay listing.
There are many listed items by many sellers in Japan, but these are other shop's inventry on website or Buy it Now items on Yahoo auction.
These photo are all copy and paste.
I don't know the shop who listed on eBay from Japan.
So, These seller only provide international delivery service.

Thank You for the local knowledge Eiji. I figured some of our Brothers in Japan might also be aware.

So I guess theoretically, if someone used Buy-It-Now, one of these guys would buy it from whomever actually has it, and pocket the overage?

It gets worse then that in some cases in my opinion.  In some cases the pictures of the instruments are just that and the seller no merchandise to send you . I have been careful and only one time when I purchased a trumpet from a fellow in Alaska did I ever have a problem . In that particular incident the seller had a paypal account with a $1100.00 negative balance , over drawn $1100.00 !  My purchase was for $600.00 and the seller told me that ebay stole my payment ! It turned into a ridiculous standoff where my credit card company refunded  me my money and went after the seller for restitution . He sent me a nasty email afterward that I just ignored and smiled about . I just want to be an honest man and expect the same from others .  Peace & Love Brothers and Sisters  .

I enquired about the maple Distillate, asking for more photos due to him mentioning cracks in a fingerboard repair. He said he didn't have any more photos. I didn't even bother responding.

I just went back and looked at the first three links, out the triple listing one went for over 5k and one for over 6k!  Jeez...all for the same instrument listed fake.
The only thing that stays the same is change.
