Very true. I know of two different bands local to here that had their vans robbed. And to this day our own Jimmy J. can give a detailed account of the night 76AC418 and one speaker cabinet went missing from their truck. It happens.

I've been really fortunate all this time to have never had a music-related theft, even though I do take extreme caution. I did have a storage locker burglarized once, but I had no musical instruments in there. I did lose a good set of Ping Eye2's though, which *really* frosted me... my Grand-daddy gave me those clubs.  >:(

I lost a '75 Les Paul custom sunburst from my apartment, and my Hofner verithin bass from my car, all in the same year (1977).  Both were bad news.  i still do a double take whenever I see a Paul sunburst in a pawn shop, 38 years and 2500 miles away.  And losing the Hofner was a real drag, it was my only electric bass at the time and I had to do a bunch of funk gigs on upright, which was HARD.  And that bass is now something of a collector's item, too.  And I never see one of those in a pawn shop.  Losing equipment is a real hardship when you rely on it.  Best to take precautions, for sure! And insurance, and record serial numbers...I think, most of all, don't leave it in the car.  If you do, you are not only vulnerable to those who want your gear, but if they want your car, you lose that and your gear, not to mention whatever else - charts, for example, that might be hard to replace.
Live each day like your hair is on fire.

The only thing that stays the same is change.
