Acme B-2; updated review

I was wrong.
 
Back in August I posted in the following thread that I had purchased a used Acme Low B-2 and that, while I loved the low end, I wasn't pleased with the high end.

I've been biamping this cab with an Eden or Bag End ever since.
 
Well it turns out that the fuse protecting the tweeter was blown.  The cabinet sounds great!  I'm laughing at myself for not checking it sooner.
 
So I owe an apology to anyone who may have made a decision on purchasing a cabinet based on my previous remarks concerning the Acme.
 
Since I've only just replaced the fuse I'll have to play through it for a while, with different basses and in different situations to get a feel for how this cab really sounds.  Who knows, I may even pick up another one.

Hi Dave,
By the fuse, you mean the bulb right?  I had blown one and didn't really realize it either. During that time, I pretty much did the same thing. I used the Low BII as the bottom end of a combo. What a sound !  Now, I either run it full range alone or totally roll off the mid & highs and use it as a mini sub.

Yes, the bulb; I was able to run down to the auto parts store and pick one up no trouble at all.  Thanks for the tip about totally rolling off the attenuators when running with another cab.  I'll have to try that.  After the discussion in another thread about running one cab off the full range output of the preamp and another off the low pass output, I experimented with that some and found a wealth of tonal opportunities.  Of couse as was discussed there was the phase problem; so I may at some point pick up a cable with the polarity reversed.

Well I'll say that the ACMEs have a steeper learning curv than most speakers. The take a bit of getting used to and require some patience. But, once you find your sweet-spot, look out !!
