Those are certainly good points but I'll not be your fourth behind the computer. While I wouldn't necessarily want them to go on the nostalgia cicuit it did me good to see them join together one more time just because they can. No they didn't have the same energy, Toad was pretty much going through the paces. These are all things that I mentioned in my review of the DVD in another thread. However, it was Cream, Jack's still alive, and they sounded great. Considering time and place I'm not sure the young Cream would have the same impact as '67. Today's audience may not go for a 16:35 version of Spoonful. Hell, I count under my breath, when I can catch it.

Seriously, it was still pretty d*mn good, despite the age and shape of the band. No it wasn't the same as back in the day, but it was head and shoulders above anything current pop/rock-wise today.

My guitar instructor and I had this converstaion this past lesson. He saw the PBS snippets and was disappointed. Most specifically, Clapton's playing and tone. Yes, Clapton's Woman Tone is gone...his Fender endorsements could be the cause. Sorry, but that modern Strat and Bassman combo just don't cut it like the old SG and a wall of plexi's. Yes, his playing is almost totally different than it was back then...I guess you can't go back. I'm gonna lend him my '05 and '68 Albert Hall DVD's for comparison's sake.

Regardless, I was thrilled to see them playing again, even if it wasn't the same as before. It was still good...and I still wish I was there for the MSG shows.

Sam, I agree with you also! I think it's a valuable historical document. My expectations were too high, which is my own fault and not theirs, and I thus set myself up to be underwhelmed.

Personally, pessimist that I am, I expected it to s*ck. I was actually surprised that it was a s good as it was. I know how/what Clapton's been playing like lately (NOT my favorite Clapton era at the moment), and I knew Ginger and Jack were old and in pretty bad shape. Considering all that, I thought they rocked-out pretty good!
