I recently found one of these, Travelite Guitar Case, advertised on Craig's List. It looks interesting. Anyone ever tried one or know anything about it?

Well, I went ahead and picked up this case. WOW!!!! I heartily recommend these cases. The best of gig bags and hard cases combined. It is super light and has shoulder straps like a gig bag. Add to this that it seems even more protective than a top quality hardshell case!!!! This might truly be the dream case I've always wanted. I'll just have to live with it for a bit and see. They do make them for basses (though the store at the link above doesn't carry them) but you'd have to do a little research to figure out which, if any, Alembics would fit.

I bought one of these cases for my strat and to be honest the quality of it is very disappointing.

Firstly the interiour is not very secure and the cloth is not fixed to the polystyrene case and the neck straps are just a joke.

I contacted the store and they replaced it with another which was marginally better but still low quality. That said I have kept it because I needed a light cast to carry my guitar on plane trips.

However on my first trip the carry straps broke and the strap holding the two halves together when the fase is opened came loose and now is useless until I repair it.

On the second trip with it this year to the states I carried it on board on the outward flight from the UK.
However in the USA Continental airlines refused to let me carry it the passenger compartment.

So it had to go in the hold... with my Alembic Orion guitar inside... gulp.. Thankfully it arrived in London, the same time as me and undamaged.

I would think if you wanted it for simple use and you were carrying the instrument in the car it may be ok.

My bass player also has a similar case and his carry handle came off tearing the side fabric in the process.

Just my experience and hey it was cheap.

Thanks for the review. Are you sure yours was a Travelite brand, and not a Featherlite brand? They look similar but the Featherlite is less expensive. Now you've got me curious to really go over this thing when I get home tonight. As for flying with this, I wouldn't do it by itself, but I think this may be the perfect case to put inside a Clam for airline travel.

Not sure what the brand is off the top of my head to be honest but it is the same type of case. Maybe I just got the lemon one made on Friday night just before knocking off time. ... :-)

Next time I put some boxes up in my loft I will have a look for it and see what it is.

Well, I'm home from work and inspecting my case. I don't think it's the same as yours.

On mine the outer nylon cover is attached to the inner foam (hard foam, not squishy stuff) by phillips head screws or rivets about every 4 around the entire case, upper and lower. The interior is grey velvet-like plush over the hard foam with soft cushioning in strategic places. This one also has a hard metal latch that locks with an included key. You unzip the zipper (which goes around 3/4 of the case) to get to the hard latch. As for the shoulder straps, they aren't the most heavy duty I've ever seen, but they seem sufficient. I guess time will tell!
