Minor woo-hoo!
« on: June 30, 2006, 11:33:56 AM »
I was digging through the bargin bin at a local music store over lunch and came across a set of Fender Nylon Tapewound strings (0.058 - 0.110) for $8.

Then at the bottom of the bin: a new set of D'Addario XL Reds (0.050 - 0.105).  I used to buy these for my Kramer 12 sets at a time ($6 a set back then).  I haven't seen these since what, 1986? 84?

Total expenditure $21 with tax.

The quandary: my Series I needs new strings.  Do I start with one of these or the medium Alembic's on my workbench?

Well I have never tried Tapewounds, so those are the ones I would go with.

I was going to try tapewounds once, but they were only available in such fat sizes that I would have had to recut the bridge and nut.  If your bass is set up for a .40 or .45 G, the .58 may have trouble fitting.
