East coast living (mid atlantic)

I lived out in western MT from 90-97 for school, than moved back to the philadelphia area (where I was from originally) due to the lack of work...Recently I went back to western MT for a visit, and was completely stunned by how friendly and open people are in that part of the country...being back in the east I find that I am seeing alot less friendliness and openss in people, and instead am finding alot of impatience, anger, rudeness etc....in short, people here in the mid atlantic area just seem to be much more neurotic than in other parts of the country.
 
Has anyone else noticed this or any difference in the way people are in different parts of the country?  
 
dont have any particular point in asking, its just been kind of bugging me....

As someone who lives in the northeast and whose job had required travelling around the country for six years, I'd say your observations are spot on. People in the northeast corridor are much more frenzied, harried and consequently more self centered and less friendly. I recall going to the south and the people were almost 'syrupy' sweet. They were so nice, friendly and accomodating, at first I thought I was being patronized. Then I'd recall from my school days in South Carolina that the people there really are that friendly. Not that there aren't nice, friendly people up here but they seem to be more in evidence in other parts of the country. Not being a sociologist, I don't know why that is. I'd say it was the nasty weather and the cold and snow but then how do you explain MT, MN et all?

I grew up on the East Coast and moved to California out of High School.  I always say that New York is a great place to be from ... with from being the operative word.
