If you see nothing else at the cinema this year, DON'T miss Wild Hogs. Saw it last night and laughed all the way through. It has everything one of our threads expects - bikes, beer and a cracking soundtrack, plus a surprise cameo(but i'm not saying who).

Graeme - the wanting to buy a Harley one;-)

Thanks Graeme, the commercials for it looked good. I'll wait for the video. I don't go to theatres much. People don't know how to behave anymore. Maybe I'm just getting cranky in my old age.

We'll watch that one when it hits the rental places. I hear that much of it was shot between Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico. Should be some lovely scenery and good laughs.

Saturday I saw a guy on a Harley talking on a cell phone while riding in downtown Springfield, Illinois. He was holding it in his right hand and appeared to be using a cruise control throttle lock and using clutch and rear brake to manage stops and starts in traffic. No helmet or other protective gear either. And pipes loud enough that I wonder how he could carry on a phone conversation. :|

It's crazy enough driving a car while on the phone but GEEZ on a MC, what a PUTZ!

When I ride the cell phone is turned off and stuck in the saddle bag. The only reason I even take it is for emergency use only.

Back to the movie, William H Macy makes the movie. He had me in stitches.

Wouldn't call it an all-star cast, but there are quite a few interesting people showing up through the film.

Not an all-star cast? Travolta believes he's as popular and as famous as Elvis, so in his mind I'd bet he'd disagree. Last time I was in Vegas, I saw many more Travolta impersonators on stage than Elvis ever had.

Olie, are you talking about him, his popularity, or his ego?

When I said it wasn't an all-star cast, I was thinking back to things like those epic disaster movies of the 70s where everyone on the screen was recognized as somebody. Admittedly, this movie must have had a pretty steep payroll.

As a side note, I hate it when you see someone like Linda Carter show up on Law and Order. You just know she's the bad guy - it's not like a big actor would take a bit part. It ruins any suspense that might have existed. Oh well...

Haven't seen it yet, just some snippets. From what I've seen, they're not too far off from some of the knuckleheads that are out there riding. Don't believe me? See Bike Week at a location near you...Daytona, Sturgis, Laconia, Myrtle Beach, etc.

FWIW, the latest NHTSA stats peg the Wild Hogs demographic (i.e., 40-48) as the fastest rising M/C accident statistic. Apparently, that demo is way overrepresented in M/C accident stats. It seems common sense, restraint and riding skills are strictly optional...all it takes is a checkbook and you too can play Wild Hogs or MotoGP or (fillintheblank).

As a M/C safety instructor and a MV license examiner, I see 'em all. While my task makes the Dutch Boy's pale into insignificance, I'm trying my best (along with natural selection) to weed out the potential organ donors and educate the rest on how to keep one's innards and appendages where they belong while on a bike.

Kevin, I hear ya' and agree with you. There are a lot of weekend warriors out there that got the itch from watching , Jesse JAmes, OCC, and the rest on TV.

But on the flip side of that, there are a ton of lifelong bikers out there who think they can ride under any condition. Drinking, celebrating 4-20, ill or riding 20 hrs strait getting to a rally.

I've been riding for over 25 years and even back when I did drink, I NEVER EVER got on my bike under the influence.

I know a lot of the 1%er's (from my days of playing clubs), and while I admit they do take care of their bikes, they don't take care of themselves. Most of them ride safely until they get some form of enhancement then it's no holds barred so to speak.

(I don't ride with any group)

I am all for, and have personally taken a motorcycle saftey course. So has my wife and both daughters.

I volunteer for the get-to-a-rally spot...

Another issue is that bikes today are too much for the novice rider. HP ratings are up and there are a lot of tall and heavy bikes out there. I know I have to be on top of my game when I ride because my bike is at the limit of height/weight that I can fit on. I wish Honda would build an ST1300-sized bike with Wing ergos.

Those Gold Wings are very heavy and large. They may be comfortable on the raod but my Road King is awesome for long trips as well as around town.

Tour AND terrorize kids on 600's: Yamaha FJR1300, an 'R'-bike with bags. A 'Gentleman's Express' for sure. Having said that, an ST is mighty nice, and the V4's are just too cool.

The BEST lately bike movie is 'The World's Fastest Indian', the Anthony Hopkins pic about Burt Munro.
