How bad is it?
« on: May 08, 2010, 09:55:22 AM »
When my youngest son moved to Alaska, the only way he could get there was to fly, so he left several of his instruments here.  I decided I wanted to play his Strat, so I tried to do a set-up on it.  The truss rod spins freely (I'm talking 9-10 full turns with no resistance) & doesn't change the neck; I've set up hundreds of guitars, and I've never encountered this.  Can anyone tell me what's up & how (or if) it can be fixed?
Thanks

Sounds like it might have been stripped/popped. I did that on my Jazz bass once shortly after I got it by over tightening the rod. If it is try Gene Liberty for the repair. He used to be in Dekalb but is in Sheldon these days.
