Nigel Portman-Smith - any info?

I was listening to some 1980s-90s Pentangle recently and was reminded once again of N P-S's gorgeous fretless tone and subtly melodic style.  Anyone know anything about Nigel and what bass he played back in the day?  
 
Perhaps our UK Alembicians might have some info.  
 
There's something very Wal-like about his tone, but that's just a gut feeling on my part.
